resolutions pt. 2

I have finally decided on my resolutions for this year. I had thought of quite a few resolutions and realized that maybe I had too many. Then I read Michelle’s blog post with her resolutions. She has ten. This made me feel a bit better about having so many so I have ten also. Hope you don’t mind me copying you a bit, Michelle!

Some are daily changes, some are periodic… but overall I think they’re all doable. Ten is a lot, I know, but I do think I’ll be a better person at the end of 2010 if I am able to accomplish them all.

These are in no specific order and yes, I stole some from Michelle and a few other folks.

1. Blog at least once a week. I think it’ll be good to look back this time next year at changes I’ve made, ways I’ve grown and changed, etc. etc. I’ll blog about books I’ve read, classes I’m in, experiences at church… I’m looking forward to this!

2. Don’t eat after 9 pm. I did this last year until the middle of the summer. I want to reinstate it.

3. Exercise. I know so many people set this as a resolution, but I really want to! I exercised quite a bit over the summer and really enjoyed it. I just haven’t fit it into my schedule since then but I think it will be really beneficial if I do. Real Simple’s January issue had 20 minute workouts for every day of the week. I can do that.

4. Get to know more families of the children at LVP. I think this is a good move as a children’s minister. I don’t need to excuse my lack of involvement with business at school. I need to spend more time with their families and not just the child.

5. Read. Read. Read. At least 12 new books…. I’d like to read one book a week over the summer. I read a LOT last summer and loved it. Even if they’re little-ish books. I want to read!

6. Get up to watch the sunrise once a month. On the rare occasion I’m up early enough to see it, I’m not upset about being up so early. I always love seeing God’s creativity on display in the sky. I need to be reminded regularly of how big God is so that I never forget it.

7. Write one hand written letter a month. This might be to a friend I haven’t seen in a while, my family, or someone that just needs some encouragement. I don’t want to lose the sincerity and specialness of hand written notes.

8. Read through the entire Bible at least once. I tried to read it in 40 days last semester but I wasn’t very diligent. I think it’d be great to read it through in 90 days. I want to read it in a short amount of time because I think it would help me really grasp the fullness of the story, beginning to end. If you want to do this with me, let me know. We can set a reading plan and keep each other accountable!

9. Keep in touch better with my dad’s mom, my Mammaw Jo. She lives in Dallas and I don’t see or talk to her much. I’d like to have a better relationship with her. She’s not in great health and I think she might get lonely sometimes. I want to be a better granddaughter.

10. Work ahead more… don’t procrastinate! I tend to do things at the last minute and stress myself out a lot because of it. I’d like to be better about working ahead and not being up late into the night or getting up much earlier than necessary.

I know this seems a little lofty, but I really want this to be the best year ever. Some of these are little things that only take five minutes to do. What’s five minutes of my day when it could brighten someone else’s? Ask me about my resolutions throughout the year. I’m sure I’ll need you to hold me to them.

Again, Happy New Year! Don’t forget to eat some black eyed peas sometime this week. It’s a tasty tradition if nothing else!
